Hazard Identification
The first step in the risk assessment process is hazard identification.
Carrying out a script breakdown is one of the first opportunities for hazard identification. It also demonstrates that the production has directed its mind to the potential hazards associated with the project, at the earliest opportunity. The script breakdown can also highlight areas which might require significant resource allocation.
Another mechanism for early hazard identification is the analysis of drawings and sketches e.g. artists impressions/art department plans and drawings.
On a tech recce we will work in close cooperation with key production staff to establish the real hazards associated with the planned work. We will then complete a location safety overview sheet for each location and or a location safety report for the recce as a whole based on our service level agreement.

Hazard Identification support:
- Hazard identification advice and guidance will be given from concept stage eg: Script breakdown through to prep and filming and strike. Remember, there are hazards when striking that need to be budgeted and planned for!
- Tech Recce support – We will request details of where the location is taking place so that we can carry out preliminary research on local council websites etc – noting any special considerations. Once on the recce, we will gather the information received at the time of the recce and create an LSRO (Location Safety Risk Overview) for each recce location. Please note, some of these may be grouped locations if they are in the same locality. The LSRO will concentrate on the significant location hazards and suggested control measures. At your request, we can also provide a Model Production Risk Assessment which will cover all your activities and you can use this as a starting point for your Locations Risk Assessment along with the more specific information within the LSROs. Once we have attended the recce/s, we will prepare the LSRO report/s from our office or at your production office if you prefer, where we can liaise with specialist heads of department involved in the activities to gather further specialist information to help inform you in preparing your risk assessment.
- Daily H&S advisor monitoring – we will highlight any areas of non compliance and suggest remedial actions.
